HSF competitors product has Very Weak Protection..

Hide Secret Files (http://www.e-cronis.com/index.html) is very weak protection. I downloaded the program, installed it, created my password, and hid a simple text file.

After hiding it I was able to 1) Locate the hidden data on my system 2) View my password in plain text, unencrypted, and 3) View the entire contents of my data (also unencrypted).

Yes, it does use "special features" of NTFS. But it does not hide data very well, and it does not encrypt either the password OR the data. Thus, it is easy to find. Not even the file name you hide is encrypted. Thus it is simply not true that "not even special company auditors using special software" can find your data. Bologna! I found it in less than five minutes.

As a software security researcher I will not spill the beans here and spoil your business though out of respect for your hard work and development efforts.

Anyone though, with a modicum of skill, can find and view the data hidden with your program (including the password).

If anyone wants to know of a better program, similar to this one, with much stronger protection, email me.

HSF is based on a good idea, but the developers need to go a lot further with it.

 Sad

I have a question for you, since you seem to know about file encryption.

I occasionally use AIRoboForm; if you save sensitive data in their password-encrypted files, is it (in your opinion) relatively easy for hackers to open these if they somehow get hold of them? (I am talking about saving these files on the hard drive and not in a memory stick which is obviously safer).

Thanks
